APPROVE Amendment No.1 to the Consulting Services Agreement with Sanders and Associates Geostructural Engineering, Inc., effective July 15, 2001 for design and construction related services for the Christie Road Erosion Repair Project in the Hercules area. (District 11) Project No.:0672-586351-9$ MATE: January 15, 2002 PAGE 2 11. Financial Impact: This contract amendment allows for an additional $10,000 above the previously approved contract for$27,500,funded by Federal Emergency Management Agency Funds (70%), State Funds (20%), Road Funds (10%). 111. Reasons for Recommendations and Background: On June 5, 2001, the County executed a Consulting Service Agreement with Sanders and Associates Geostructural Engineering, Inc. (SAGE)to provide design and construction related services for repair of erosion along Christie Road approximately 1.1 mile south of Highway 4. Subsequently, it was necessary to expand the scope of the original agreement in order to accommodate an existing "high-risk" oil pipeline that traverses under the project site. This extra work is estimated at$5,000 and includes alternative design analysis, coordination with the pipeline company, and implementation of a soil nail testing program. In addition, SAGE will be consulted during the construction phase of the project to ensure proper implementation of the soil nail wall. The original budget for this on-call construction related work is $2,210 and will be increased by $5,000. The extra budget for on-call construction services will allow the County to be more able to address unforeseen conditions during construction as recommended by SAGE such as weak soils that may require additional soil nails. IV. Consequences of Negative Action: If the amendment is not approved, the County will need to consult with another geotechnical firm not familiar with the project to provide on-call construction services.
