HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 01082002 - C5 CONTRA COSTA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS In the Matter o,f` Resolution No.2002I 5 RECOGNIZING EAST CONTRA COSTA COUNTY'S WORLD AIDS DAYEVENTS,LUNCHTIME PROGRAM ON NOVEMBER 30, 2001 AND AN INFORMA TION BOOTHAT COUNTYEAST MALL ON NOVEMBER 10, 2001 WHEREAS, there have been more than 2,199 cases of AIDS and more than 1,415 AIDS related deaths reported among Contra Costa residents since the first AIDS case was diagnosed in Contra Costa County in 1981:and WHEREAS, for every one person diagnosed with AIDS, it is estimated that there are three people who are HIV positive; and WHEREAS, a state of emergency in Contra Costa County was declared,for HIV/AIDS in 1999 to bring awareness to the pandemic;and WHEREAS, no cure for exists for AIDS;and HIV education and prevention remain the most effective means of limiting the impact of the epidemic;and WHEREAS, World AIDS Day emerged from the call by the World Summit of Ministers of Health on Programmes for AIDS Prevention in 1988 to open channels of communication, strengthen the exchange of information and experience, and forge a spirit of social tolerance;and WHEREAS, the Office of Supervisor Federal D. Glover, organized a lunchtime program with local speakers discussing AIDS and World AIDS Day on November 30, 2001;and WHEREAS, the Pittsburg Pre-School and Community Council provided a health van that tested members of the public for HIV on November 30, 2001 and staffed an information booth at County East Mall on November 10, 2001;and WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Health AIDS Program and Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center provided speakers to educate the public about HIV and AIDS; and WHEREAS, Los Medanos College acted as the host site for World AIDS Day. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby support the efforts of Supervisor Glover on the production of two outstanding efforts to promote the decimation of information of World AIDS Day through the lunchtime program on November 30, 2001 and information booth on November 10, 2001.
