In the Matter of Resolution NO. 2002/53
TO COMMEMORATE THE
50TH ANNIVERSARY OF
THE Att BROSE LIONS CLUB'
WHEREAS, the Ambrose Lions Club was chartered in 1952 to follow the motto of the
Lions Club International, ``We Serve, "and engage in community service to benefit Bay Point
and the surrounding community; and
WHEREAS, the Ambrose Lions Club has held numerous community events to raise
funds to benefit its serviceprojects and bring the community together, especially with its annual
Crab feed; and
WHEREAS, the Ambrose Lions Club has promoted awareness,of civics education`and
good citizenship among youth with its Student Speaker Contest, where high school students
debate the issues of the day and are rewarded with scholarship funds; and
WHEREAS, the Ambrose Lions Club has helped hundreds of needy families with meals,
clothing and toys for children through its Christmas'Food Basket program, and its support, or
the Christmas Wish Santa program,-and
WHEREAS, the Ambrose Lions Club has helped the blind and sight impaired by
supporting the Diablo Valley Blind Center in Pittsburg, the Oakland Blind Center and Liens
Club International's various sight programs, 'including free eye exams and low-cost eyeglass
referrals for local citizens'who cannot pay; and
WHEREAS, the Ambrose Lions Club has helped the deaf and hearing impaired with
scholarships,,volunteers and leadership in the Wilderness Camp for the Deaf, and
WHEREAS, the Ambrose Lions Club will celebrate their 50`h Anniversary on
Saturday, .March 9,:;2002 with a banquet to mark the many years of community service to the Bay
Point residents and Lions Club International.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED'the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa
County, hereby extends congratulations to the Ambrose Lions Club on their 5e
ANNIVERSARYfor their accomplishments, leadership and assistance to the youth,families,
schools and parks ofBay.Point, and to the Liens sight and hearing programs of Lions District
4C3, California and the United,States ofAmerica.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 5'h day of February,
2002.
