Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee
('Chris Grazzini) to execute on behalf of the County, Contract
Amendment' Agreement #26--411'1 with Elizabeth La Gorce, R.N,
effective February 1, 2002, to amend Contract #26-411, to increase
the total Contract Payment Limit by $50, 000, from $20, 000 to' a new
total, payment' limit of $70, 000, and to extend the term of the
agreementthrough' May 31, 2003 ,
FISCAL IMPACT':
Funding for this contract is included in the Health Services
Department Enterprise' I budget.
BACKGROt=/REASON(S) FOR RECOItiMENDATION(S 3
In July 2001, the County Administrator approved and the Purchasing
Services Manager executed Contract #26-411 with Elizabeth La Gorce,
R.N. , for the period from June 1, 2001 thorough. May 31 2002, to
provide comprehensive professional nursing ,care services to sexual
assault victims, to collect, preserve, and document forensic
evidence, as set 'forth in the Office of Criminal Justice Planning
protocols for the State of California, including, but not limited to
examinations, on-call coverage, attending meetings, conducting
training,` and'proctoring for the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)
program.
Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-411-1 will allow
Contractor to provide additional services through May 31, 2003 .

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Jeff Smith,
M.D. ) to execute on behalf of the County, Contract Amendment Agreement #26-260-9
with Preferred Staffing, Inc. , effective December 15, 2001, to amend Contract
#26-260-8 to increase the 'Contract Payment 'Limit by $100, 000 from $100, 000 to
a new total payment limit of $200, 000 .
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract•: is funded by in the Health Services Department Enterprise l
budget .
BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION-15) :
For several years the County has contracted with nursing registries to provide
temporary licensed nursing personnel to assist Contra Costa Regional. Medical'
Center and the Contra Costa Health Centers during peak loads, temporary
absences, and emergency situations. There continues to be a nationwide nursing
shortage, and in spite of persistent efforts to recruit nurses, the Department
has experienced difficulty in filling vacant positions. Therefore,' the
Department has had to rely heavily on the registry services in order to provide
quality nursing care for patients .
On July 15, 2001, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-260-8 ' with
Preferred Staffing, Inc. , for the period from August 1, 2001 through:, July 31,
2002, for the provision of nursing registry services at Contra Costa Regional
Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers'.
Approval of ContractAmendmentAgreement ##26--260-9 will allow Contractor to
provide additional registry services through July 31, 2002 .

RECQ7MMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee
(Chris Grazzini) , to execute on behalf of the County, Contract' #26-362-
2 with Bay Area Mobile Apheresis Program, in an amount not to exceed
$62, 500, for the period from January 1, 2002 'through December '31, 2002,
for the provision of therapeutic apheresis services to patients at
Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.
FINANCIAL. IMPACT
Cost to the County depends upon utilization. As appropriate, patients
and/or third party payors will be billed for services.
REASONS FOR RECQMMEND T10NS/BACKGROUND s"
On February 15, 2000, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-
362-1 with Bay Area Mobile Apheresis Program, for the period from
January 1, 2000 through December 31, 2001, to :,provide the necessary
equipmentand qualified professional staff to conduct therapeutic
apheresisproceduresat Contra Costa Regional Medical Center'.
Approval of Contract #26-362-2 will allow Contractor' to continue
providing' services through' December 31, 2002 .
