(`�■ SUBJECT: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee to EXECUTE a contract with John Swett Unified School District (#21-696-2) in the amount of $80,000 for truancy prevention services for the period from July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002. SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOAIN1ENDATION(S)S BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RF,C MMF.NDED ACTION* APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee to EXECUTE a contract with John Swett Unified School District (#21-696-2) in the amount of$80,000 for truancy prevention services for the period from July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002. FINANCIAL IMPACT: $80,000 Office of Juvenile Justice and Weed and Seed Grant Funds: No County cost; 100% Federal grant funds. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATFMF.NT: This contract directly supports three community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card: "Children Ready For and Succeeding in School"; "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing"; and "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families." This contract targets positive attendance of students enrolled at Hillcrest Elementary School and John Swett High School through outreach and linkage of students and families to services designed to improve attendance and family participation in education. BACKGROUND: The Board most recently approved EHSD to amend its contract with the John Swett Unified School District on December 19, 2000 (c. 63), for services it has provided since August 2000. The Truancy Reduction Prevention Project is funded through the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). OJJDP funds help local communities implement effective intervention programs that improve the juvenile justice system to protect public safety, hold offenders accountable and provide treatment and rehabilitative services to the needs of families and youth. For FY 2001-02, supplemental Weed & Seed grant funds support a self-sufficiency outreach counselor for additional truancy reduction support.
