HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10232001 - C.12 The Board o Su ervisors .f P of Contra Costa County In t1te Matter of Resolution Nop,0011510 RECOGNIZING THE 51STANNIVERSARY OF SOLOMON TEMPLE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH WHEREAS, October, 2001 marks the 5151 Anniversary of Solomon Temple Missionary Baptist Church, which was dedicated to the service of God and humanity in the City of Pittsburg by a group of dedicated members; and WHEREAS, Solomon Temple Missionary Baptist Church was started in 1950 by Pastor G. W. Killings who remained with the church for five years; was succeeded by Pastor White who served for five months; then in 1957 Pastor M. T. Thompson.was called to Solomon Temple who served until 1966; and WHEREAS, in February 1967, Pastor P. N. Sumpter began his career with Solomon Temple who blessed the church with his dynamic, outreach-minded leadership until his passing in December, 1996; and WHEREAS, it took several years for God to bring a Pastor to Solomon Temple but in August 1998 Pastor Dunham was called and remained until January 2000; and WHEREAS, we give pause, honor and praise this day for the deep and abiding Christian commitment of those who in faith began this work, and for all those who have given so unselfishly during these many years to help the work grow and thrive, and provide valuable human services where the need was great; and WHEREAS, our entire community has benefited from the fine Christian influence this church has exerted through the years, and the many facets of its outreach and practical assistance to the needy; and WHEREAS, it is a pleasure to extend this expression of our esteem and best wishes to the members of this congregation on the memorable occasion of this anniversary. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California does hereby extend congratulations to Solomon Temple Missionary Baptist Church on their 5151 Anniversaryfor the many contributions and services and our best wishes for many years of continued success in the future.
