Diablo Unified School District (#21-528-1) for After School Learning and Safe Neighborhood Partnership Program in the amount of$371,000 for the period September 10, 2001 through August 15, 2002. 1 SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to contract with Mt. Diablo Unified School District (#21-528-1) for After School Learning and Safe Neighborhood Partnership Program in the amount of$371,000 for the period September 10, 2001 through August 15, 2002. I FINANCIAL IMPACT: I $371,000 Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) Incentive Funds; 100% Federal. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:I I Services under this contract directly support all five of the community outcomes identified in the Contra Costa Children's Report Card: 1) "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School" 2) "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood" 3) "Families that are Economically Self Sufficient" 4) "Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing" 5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families." I BACKGROUND: I The Mt. Diablo Unified School District (MIDUSD) After School Learning and Safe Neighborhoods Partnership Program received $400,000 from Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD) for start up costs during the 1999-2000 school year. Establishing a quality program, the program funded school partnerships with city, county, and community organizations providing a safe environment after school for students in grades K-9. Expanding the existing after school program for school year 2001-2002, the After School Learning and Safe Neighborhoods Partnership Program is administered at seven MDUSD sites serving approximately 840 students with program costs totaling $1,540,000. The after school program supports families by providing after school care in lieu of traditional childcare and employment training and preparation by hiring family members as staff and volunteers. The after)school program provides recreational and educational services and connects parent and community outreach to Adult Education services and pr rams.
