HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10162001 - C.28 ,C L90" 0/ RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING RESOLUTION NO. 2001/497 NOVEMBER 2001 AS "READY SET READ MONTH" IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY WHEREAS, The Contra Costa Children and Families Commission will launch a campaign to promote family literacy during the month of November; and WHEREAS,The Ready, Set, Read Campaign celebrates the important role parents play in their child's learning. Simple activities such as reading aloud together every day and visiting the library can help children to develop the skills that are needed for reading and writing, and ultimately for success in school; and WHEREAS, The Commission will kick off the month on November Istby awarding mini grants totaling $150,000 to child care providers and community-based organizations. Grants will provide support for projects that promote reading and language development for children zero to five and their families; and WHEREAS, In partnership with the Contra Costa County library system and the Contra Costa Child Care Council, the remainder of the month will be filled with community activities to promote family literacy. WHEREAS, PARENTS CAN BE THEIR CHILD'S FIRST TEACHER. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby proclaim November, 2001 as !! ll PASSED BY A UNANIMOUS VOTE OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS THIS 16TH DAY OF OCTOBER, 2001.
