Gilbert, Director of General Services , Contra a: = Costa DATE: September 18, 2001 County SUBJECT: REQUEST TO PURCHASE VEHICLES/EQUIPMENT ON BEHALF OF THE SHERIFF-CORONER DEPARTMENT FOR AC TRANSIT SPECIFIC REQUESTS OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S): 1. APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Fleet Manager to purchase one (1) 2002 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. The vehicle will be purchased for AC Transit by the Sheriff's Department. 2. AUTHORIZE the attached appropriation adjustments for $23,000, which is the estimated cost of the vehicle. FISCAL IMPACT: Funding for this purchase is comprised of accumulated depreciation($20,755), estimated salvage ($1,200) and Sheriff's Department funds ($2,245, includes $1,200 outfitting expense). The purchase costs of this purchase will be fully reimbursed by AC Transit, once the vehicle is received. BACKGROUND: This new vehicle will be purchased for AC Transit Police Services. It will replace Unit#2804, which is four years old and has over 90,000 miles. The 2002 models have not yet been produced, so it is estimated that it will be several months before a new unit is actually available, at which time the existing unit will have well over 100,000 miles. In accordance with Administrative Bulletin No. 508: "County Vehicle and Equipment Acquisition and Replacement Policy with Guidelines," approval is requested for the purchase of the above-referenced vehicles and equipment. Based on a review of the need for the new vehicles/equipment and consideration of alternative fueled vehicles, the Fleet Manager recommends approval of this request. This request has been reviewed and approved by the County Administrator for consideration by the Board of Supervisors.
