RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE set aside of$5,000 for the 2001 College Scholarship Award Program from Housing Authority Local Management funds, as recommended by the Advisory Housing Commission. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The $5,000 necessary to continue the college scholarship awards program, begun in 1985, will be funded from Housing Authority Local Management funds. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND The criteria developed at the implementation of the college scholarship awards in 1985 will remain the same, with the addition of wording adopted in 1986 which expanded scholarship eligibility to include any family member whose family currently receives subsidy under the Section 8 programs administered by the Housing Authority of the County of Contra Costa, as well as individuals who have previously received scholarship awards through the Housing Authority 's College Scholarship Award Program. The awards are one-year grants of$850.00 for students who will attend a four-year college and $400 for students who will attend a community college or vocational/technical school. At its regular meeting on Monday, February 26, 2001 the Advisory Housing Commission moved to recommend that $5,000 be set aside from Housing Authority Local Management funds for use as college scholarship awards in 2001. IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Should the Board of Commissioners elect not to approve the set aside of$5,000 for use in the College Scholarship Award Program, the Housing Authority would be forced to abandon this worthwhile endeavor.
