SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Department Director, or designee, to RENEW the interagency agreement the Contra Costa County Office of Education(#18-002-0)for telephone line charges and internet access for the EASTBAY Works One-Stop Career Centers in the County and in the City of Richmond with a payment limit of$50,000 for the period July 1, 2000 through June 30, 2001. FINANCIAL IMPACT: No County Costs. Funding for this activity comes from a variety of Federal and State workforce development grants and will benefit the job seeking community. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: This action will directly support the third outcome, "Families that are Economically Self-Sufficient". Activities under this contract will provide an avenue for job search and potential employment for participants. BACKGROUND: On June 15, 1999, the Board of Supervisors authorized the execution of agreements with the Alameda Office of Education and the Contra Costa County Office of Education for line charges, technical support and internet access for the 17 EASTBAY Works One-Stop Career Centers (Item # C.123). Since last year the Alameda County Workforce Investment Board has taken over the contract for internet service with the Alameda Office of Education. Hence, the action requested here is only with the Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE). This Agreement will pay for Internet access, technical support and line charges for the One-Stops Career Centers in Contra Costa County and Richmond. Telephone line charges and internet access fees for the Richmond One-Stops will be covered in this agreement with CCCOE but will be offset by savings through another agreement with the Richmond Workforce Investment Board. This action will enable the County to continue its relationship with the Contra Costa County Office of Education drawing the benefits of discounted Internet access and further c llaboration in EASTBAY Works and EASTBAY Learns.
