BACKGROUND: Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa, Inc. is a charitable private non-profit coalition of public and private organizations and individuals founded in 1990 for the expressed purpose of developing on-going financial resources to bridge the gap between available government funding levels and the need for additional meals to serve the county's homebound elders. A grant from the County Administrator's "Grant Revenue Improvement Program" in each of the last two years has allowed a dramatic increase in private sector program contributions to the program, resulting in the elimination of waiting lists for program services as of July 2000, for the first time in the program's history.
