Vndersheriff Martinez, California 94553 (925) 313.2512 e Date: November 17, 2000 To: Fred Jones, Fleet Services Manager Via Lieutenant Ray Ingersoll, Technical Services Divisio From: Chief Hank W. Davis, Lafayette Police Department Subject: Replacement of Unit #0626 As per our previous conversations the City of Lafayette would like to have my vehicle, Unit #0626, replaced via depreciation funds. The city would further like to purchase Unit#0626 for salvage value to be used as our detective's vehicle. Prior to my arrival, the City of Lafayette authorized the addition of an in-house detective to the Sheriffs contract. Unfortunately, they failed to budget for a vehicle for the detective. The detective position was added in April 2000. The Investigation Division graciously loaned us a vehicle for four months. My detective has been using his P.O_V. or marked Lafayette units for transportation since September 1, 2000. Obviously, using a P.O.V. routinely for official business is not acceptable. It is equally unacceptable to use marked Lafayette Patrol cars to do follow-up, search warrants, etc_, outside of the city and/or county. I would appreciate it if you could act on this request as soon as possible. If there is anything I can do to expedite this process, please let me know. cc: Steve Falk, Lafayette City Manager AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
