SPECIFIC REQUESTS OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDATION
APPROVE a Lease Amendment, commencing March 1, 2001, with Martinez Unified School
District for the premises at 850 Jones Street, Martinez, for continued occupancy by the
Community Services, under the terms and conditions more particularly set forth in said Lease
Amendment, and AUTHORIZE the Director of General Services to EXECUTE said Lease
Amendment on behalf of the County.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT
Payments required are to come from the budget of the Community Services Department.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION / BACKGROUND
Provide expansion facility for childcare program, as requested by the Community Services
Department. This facility was opened in October 2000.

AMENDMENT TO LEASE
FOR
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
850 JONES STREET
MARTINEZ, CALIFORNIA
1. PARTIES: Effective on MARC* MARTINEZ UNIFIED SCHOOL
DISTRICT, hereinafter called "LESSOR", and the COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA, a
political subdivision of the State of California, hereinafter called "COUNTY", mutually agree
and promise as follows:
2. PURPOSE: The parties desire to amend that Lease entered into between LESSOR and
COUNTY dated October 1, 2000 for classroom 19 in the building located at 850 Jones
Street, Martinez to add one classroom.
3. AMENDMENT: Paragraph A.2., LEASE OF PREMISES, shall be deleted in its
entirety and replaced by the following:
A.2. LEASE OF PREMISES: LESSOR, for and in consideration of the rents,
hereby leases to COUNTY, and COUNTY leases from LESSOR those certain premises
at 850 Jones Street, Martinez, described as follows: Classroom 19 containing
approximately 950 square feet and Classroom K-2 containing approximately 1200
square feet for a total of 2,150 square feet, hereinafter referred to as "Premises", as
shown outlined in yellow lines on Exhibit "A" which is attached hereto and made a part
hereof. COUNTY shall have nonexclusive use of the building common areas,
restrooms and the parking lot on Susana Street.
4. AMENDMENT: Paragraph AA., RENT, shall be deleted in its entirety and replaced
with the following:
A.4. RENT: COUNTY shall pay to LESSOR as rent for the use of the Premises a
monthly rental payable in advance on the first day of each month during the term of this
Lease as follows:
October 1, 2000 through February 28, 2001=$850.00 per month
March 1, 2001 through September 30, 2001=$1,920.00 per month
October 1, 2001 through September 30, 2002=$1,980.00 per month
October 1, 2002 through September 30, 2003=$2,040.00 per month
October 1, 2003 through September 30, 2004=$2,105.00 per month
October 1, 2004 through September 30, 2005=$2,165.00 per month
Payments shall be mailed to LESSOR at 921 Susana Street, Martinez, CA 94553.
5. EFFECT: Except for the Amendments agreed to herein, the Lease of October 1, 2000
remains in full force and effect.
