Specific Request(S)or Recommendation(S)&Background and Justification I. RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Community Services Director or designee to execute contract amendment #38-458-4 with Cambridge Community Center, in the amount of $19,200 for a new payment limit of $96,000 for continued Head Start Program Enhancement services for the period from July .1, 2001 through June 30, 2002. I I. FINANCIAL IMPACT: This contract is funded by the Federal Head Start Basic Grant and is included in the Community Services Department's FY 2001-2002 budget. No net County cost is required. III. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: The Community Services Department Head Start Program supports two of Contra Costa County's community outcomes: "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School" and "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing." These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, health, and social services, along with a strong parent involvement focus, to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County. The overall goal of the program is to bring a greater degree of social competence in preschool children from low-income families. The Head Start program allows the County to provide these services to program eligible children, ages 3 to 5 years. IV. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONSBACKGROUND: On January 23, 2001, the Board approved the.Financial Assistance award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families for Head Start Grant Funds through December 31, 2001. Approval of this 'contract amendment with Cambridge Community Center will allow for continuing Head Start services to 40 program eligible children ages three (3) to five (5) years, in a full day childcare program.
