SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Director, or designee, to ACCEPT
additional funds to a Small Business Development Center grant (#29-084-3) from the State of
California Trade and Commerce Agency in the amount of $37,000 for the period January 1,
2001 through December 31, 2001.
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Director, or designee, to ACCEPT additional funds to a
Small Business Development Center grant (#29-084-3) from the State of California Trade and Commerce
Agency in the amount of$37,000 for the period, ,-January 1, 2001'.Thru December 31, 2001.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
No County funds. Matching funds for this grant come from the City of Antioch, County Community
Development Block Grant and redevelopment agencies from various cities.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
This action will directly support the third community outcome, "Families that are Economically Self-
Sufficient". Activities under this agreement provide Contra Costa County residents with opportunities for
self-employment and for development of a strong local economy.
BACKGROUND:
On November 14, 2000, the Board authorized acceptance of a $297,385 grant from the State of California
Trade and Commerce Agency for the Contra Costa County Workforce Investment Board (WIB), formerly
known as the Private Industry Council, to host the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for the period
from January 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001.
This action will enable the County to receive additional SBDC grant funding from the California Trade and
Commerce Agency. The Board originally approved entering into the grant agreement on June 13, 1995.
Funding has recurred annually for the last five years.
