COMMITTEE (DONNA GERBER, CHAIR)
County
DATE: DECEMBER 10, 2001 °`'`"`
SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION FOR THE CHAIR TO SIGN A LETTER REGARDING THE
METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION'S REGIONAL TRANSIT
EXPANSION PROGRAM
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATIONS
Authorize the Chair of the Board of Supervisors to sign the attached letter to the
Metropolitan Transportation Commission, regarding the Commission's proposed Regional
Transit Expansion Program.
FISCAL IMPACT
None to the General Fund. The Regional Transit Expansion Program proposed by MTC
would bring a $345 million commitment of future funds for rail transit extensions in Contra
Costa County.
BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
Recently BART and the Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority(VTA) reached agreement on
an extension of BART to San Jose. The agreement doesn't include a Santa Clara County
"buy-in" to help finance long-sought BART extensions in East County, West County, and
Livermore, as Contra Costa and Alameda Counties had sought.
