FINANCIAL IMPACT: The estimated project cost for the Pomona Street Bike Lanes and Sidewalk is $550,000, funded by Transportation Development Act Grants (80%) and Road Funds (20`io). III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: The purpose of this project is to provide a continuous route for pedestrians and bicyclists using Pomona Street between Crockett Boulevard and Third Street in Crockett. The project consists of removing existing asphalt concrete paths, existing fence, metal beam guardrail and wood retaining wall strictures; installing curb,gutter,and sidewalk;installing retaining wall structures,and Class II bike lanes(bike lane striping and signing), chain link fence, and minor drainage modification. .On the north side of Pomona Street between Crockett Boulevard and Third Street, adjacent to John Swett High School,remove an existing wood retaining structure(sidewalk conform)and install a composite(wood and steel beam)retaining structure(approx. 646 linear ft.);remove an existing metal beam guardrail and an asphalt concrete path(approx. 640 linear ft.)and replace with curb,gutter, and sidewalk. On the south side of Pomona, between Third Street and Crockett Boulevard, adjacent to Carquinez Middle School, .install a Class ll.Bike Lane. No road widening will be necessary to complete the project. Temporary construction easements maybe required and right of way maybe obtained. One lane will remain open during construction at all times and traffic control through the construction zone will be implemented. On the north side of Pomona Street, approximately 300 feet cast of Third Street, a 3" diameter at breast height non-native tree may need to be removed. Trees and shrubbery may need trimming throughout the project. Any tree roots exposed during excavation will be cut cleanly. The project has been determined to be in compliance with the General Plan and is exempt from CEQA.The project involves the operation, repair, maintenance, and minor alteration of existing public facilities involving no expansion of use beyond that previously existing. The project will not result in the removal of any scenic resource. IV.
