SUBJECT: CONSIDER THE APPROVAL OF A DONATION TO THE TOWN OF DISCOVERY BAY
COMMUNITY SERVICES DISTRICT OF THE OLD DISCOVERY BAY STREET SIGNS
WHICH ARE IN THE COUNTY'S PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT SURPLUS
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
1. Approve the donation of the old Discovery Bay Street signs, which are in County Public
Works Department Surplus to the Town of Discovery Bay Community Services District.
2. Direct staff of the Public Works Department to contact Virgil Koehne, the General
Manager of the Town of Discovery Bay Community Services District, pertaining to the
delivery of the old Discovery Bay signs.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Over the past several months the County's Public Works Department has been replacing all
existing Discovery Bay street signs with new signs displaying the Discovery Bay logo. The new street
signs are now completed and the old signs are being stored in the Public Works Department surplus.
The General Manager of the Town of Discovery Bay Community Services District has approached
the County to ask for the donation of these old signs. They wish to use these signs as a fundraising
activity to construct their new community center for their residents use. He has stated that the
Discovery Bay Community Center Committee believes this could generate new funds for the planned
community center by auctioning of the old street signs.
