SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECONINIENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee to AMEND contract #21-679-0 with Center For Human Development, extending the contract through June 30, 2002 and increasing the payment limit by $9,500 to a new limit of$33,342 for Weed and Seed Services in North Richmond. FINANCIAL IMPACT: $33,342 Weed and Seed Program Grant funds: 100% Federal grant funds. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT* This contract directly supports the following community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card: "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood;" "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing" and "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families". This program delivers constructive activities for youth including an after school safe haven, sewing classes and a computer literacy program. BACKGROUND& This contract amendment adds time to continue the delivery of services through FY 2001-02 as part of the Employment and Human Services Department's federally funded Weed and Seed program. An existing provider approved by the Executive Board of the Weed and Seed Program will continue its program while the Department implements a public bid for ongoing Weed and Seed Program services. Funding for the contract comes from Weed and Seed grants to EHSD for FY 2000-01 ($23,842) and FY 2001-02 ($9500). Among the many services provided to the North Richmond community through this contract are a computer literacy program, sewing class and related materials and instruction.
