SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
Recommendation:
ADOPT a resolution honoring and recognizing various groups for their commitment to funding the Health
Assistance Centers of the Healthy Families and Medi-Cal Outreach and Enrollment Public/Private
Partnership. (Resolution No. 2000/483)
Background:
Contra Costa County Health Services, and Employment and Human Services, are committed to malting
health coverage and health care accessible for children and their families. Through their combined efforts
they have promoted and received committed funding from John Muir/Mt. Diablo Community Health
Benefit Corporation, The San Francisco Foundation, McKesson HBOC Foundation, Y & H Soda
Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, East Bay Community Foundation, The Lowell Berry Foundation, Dean &
Margaret Lesher Foundation, and the United Way of the Bay Area to fund the Health Assistance Centers of
the Healthy Families &Medi-Cal Outreach&Enrollment Public/Private Partnership.

WHEREAS, Contra Costa County values the health of its children and families; and.
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County is committed to making health care accessible for uninsured and
underserved children and families; and,
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County realizes that enrollment of all eligible children in Healthy
Families and Medi-Cal is beneficial to families, schools, and the community as a whole; and,
WHEREAS, an estimated 10,000 uninsured children in Contra Costa County are eligible for health
coverage through Healthy Families and Medi-Cal; and,
WHEREAS, Contra Costa Health Services and Employment and Human Services are committed to
making health coverage and health care accessible for these children and their families; and,
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County recognizes West Contra Costa Unified School District, Mt.
Diablo Unified School District, La Clinica de La Raza, East Bay Perinatal Council, Contra Costa
Health Services, and Contra Costa Employment and Human Services for their collaboration as the
Healthy Families and Medi-Cal Outreach and Enrollment Public/Private Partnership, which will
extend health coverage to the 10,000 eligible uninsured children in Contra Costa County; and,
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED►that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County
does honor and recognize the John Muir/Mt. Diablo Community Health Benefit Corporation, The
San Francisco Foundation, McKesson HBOC Foundation, Y & H Soda Foundation, Kaiser
Permanente, East Bay Community Foundation, The Lowell Berry Foundation, Dean & Margaret
