.SUBJECT: STATUS OF REFERRAL ON EAST BAY REGIONAL PARK DISTRICT'S GRAZING
REVIEW
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION
ACCEPT report from the Board of Supervisor's East Bay Regional Park District Liaison
Committee on its plan to make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors on grazing
policy once the EBRPD has completed the information gathering phase of its review and
is formulating any policy updates.
FISCAL IMPACT
None.
BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
On August 1, 2000, the Board of Supervisors referred to our Committee a recommendation
by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Fire Advisory Commission to adopt a
position of support for the EBRPD's current grazing. EBRPD has created a Grazing
Review Task Force to review its grazing practices. We discussed this matter at our
September 18 meeting. Representatives of the Fire Advisory Committee and the Fish and
Wildlife Committee and staff from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District provided
input. Our Committee determined that the most appropriate time to comment to EBRPD
on this matter is after the EBRPD Grazing Review Task Force has completed the
information gathering phase of its process and is formulating any policy updates. We will
take up this matter again at that time and provide any appropriate recommendation to the
Board.
