Funding for this item will be made ftom County Service Area EM-€ Zane A Tarsals designated for PMS system enhancements in the Sail, Ramon Valley area. There is no General Fi d impact. BACKGROUND: SRVI^PD,the Comity's emergencyarnbulance service coptraetor for CSA,ESS-I Zone A(the San Ramon Valley avea),has undertakena program of expansion and opgradingof EMS services, This has included the hiring ofexperienced paramedics to fill a number offirefighter- paramedic positions,tr°ainingofsix existing firefighters as paramedics,and the;provision of special EMT team training to EMT-I firefighters working with paramedics. $150,000wa's approved by yonr Board on June 1, 1999 from FY 1998-99 CSA ESI--I Zone A funds to parially offset these costs. During the coming year,SRVFPD plaits to: (1)to purchase a new ambulance to replace a cttrrent high-mileage reserve unit; (2)to upgrade EMS equipment used by paramedics and EMT's;(3)to engage in additional training for its paramedic and EMT personnel;'and, (4)to upgrade or replace the patient case reporting computer system enabling SRVFPI3to provide complete and accurate data to the Co3anty. SRVFPD is rcgvaestittg S I50,t t3 front f:Y 1999-2000 CSA EIS-I Zone A funds to offset costs for these EMS enhancements. SRVI`PD provides bath first responder and ernergencyambulance services within CSA Elul-I Zoite A(San I Ramon Valley). Ambulance services are provided trader an exclusive operating area agreement between the County and SRVF"PD similar to eontrac s in effect with American Medical Response(AMR)and with l oraga-0rinda Eire for CSA EM-1 Zone B(covering all of the county except the Sate Ramon Valley area). Unlike the AMR and Moraga.-Orinda Fire contracts,the SRVFPD contract does not provide for an annual emergency ambulance subsidy,and a lower CSA EM-I assessment rate has therefore been established for Zone A. Sufficient CSA EM-I Zone A funds are available to cover tltisrequest.
