THIS IS A MATTER FOR RECORD PURPOSES ONLY NO BOARD ACTION WAS TAKEN to:, DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE Contra Costa County Date: January 13, 1999 To: Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors From: dward P. Meyer, Agricultural Commissioner- l Director of Weights & Measures Subject: Report on the 1998 Charity Campaign Due to the generosity of Contra Costa County employees, the 1998 charity campaign was a tremendous success. With the January 10 payroll we notified County employees that they had donated over$229,900 to charity organizations. The actual total was $230,400. This amount is nearly$10,000 more than our other campaigns in the last 5 years. The success of the campaign should really be attributed to the individual Department Campaign Coordinators. These are the individuals who did the work of getting information out to individual employees about the opportunity to support charitable organizations. Since they are all important to the success of the campaign I have sent each a "Thank You" letter. A list of Department Coordinator names is attached. Another major factor was the support that the campaign received from numerous employee organizations. For example, the Contra Costa County Deputy Sheriffs Association sent a letter to their members in support of the campaign. Joe Goglio, AFL-CIO Community Services Director played a major role in coordinating efforts with the Contra Costa County employee organizations. Pat Burke and Contra Costa TV were also extremely helpful. They donated editing services in combining videos from the various charity federations into a single 10 minute video. This was used at various Department meetings to inform employees about the charity organizations. Also Roger Edwards and other Auditor-Controller staff were extremely helpful in helping us deal with payroll deduction issues related to the new payroll system. Acknowledgment should also be made of raffle donations with a value of$50 or less which were provided by the Combined Health Appeal, Concord Hilton, DeanLesher Regional Center for the Arts, Dow Chemical, the New Mecca Cafe, Oakland A's, Prestige Car Wash and Vineyard Practice Tee. The winners have already been awarded their prizes. Finally, I'd like to acknowledge Sue Finley, my Executive Secretary, for the time and effort she gave to keep the campaign running smoothly, the volunteers from the Charity Federations who handled the nuts and bolts of the campaign and Mike Ross my Co-chair. I think we all found the experience to be rewarding.
