Steinbrecher7— SUBJECT: Year 2004 Awards of Excellence Van, thanks a lot for getting these on the agenda for us! The Information Technology Exposition and Conference (ITEC) Board is an organization that puts on high tech conferences all over the United States. It is supported by most of the major high tech firms (e.g., IBM, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, etc.) in the country. The California Association of State and Local Chief Information Officers(CaICIO) is an organization chaired by the State of California's Chief Information Officer (cabinet level position in the lgovernor's office), and has as members, CIO's from a mixture of large, medium and small counties and cities throughout the State of California. Contra Costa is a charter member of CalCI'O. As part of the Silicon Valley Information Technology Exposition and Conference for 1998, held in San Jose on December 15, 1998, a series of awards were given for Year 2400 leadership in the State of California. CaICIO asked for nominations. Nominees were considered, and winners were announced by the ITEC Board and CaICIO membership in late November. Contra Costa County was selected as the winner of two awards. One, the "Year 2000 Readiness Award of Excellence"for 1998, is significant in that: • It recognizes the efforts Mr. Anthony Cellini and his Team 2000 staff from the Department of information Technology have put into getting the County's data center programs and infrastructure ready for the Year 2000. This is a result of very hard work in the areas of planning, analysis, corrective action, testing, and system certification. • It recognizes the efforts of the County in all other areas of Year 2000 remediation and readiness efforts, such as imbedded chip technology, community awareness and communication, business resumption and potential disaster recovery scenario planning. • It recognizes more than three years of national leadership in Year 2000 preparedness in the public sector by Contra Costa County, and the County's efforts to partner and share its knowledge with numerous other public and private sector organizations since 1995. E am asking the Board of Supervisors present this award to DoWs Team 2000, in recognition for their dedication and excellence in working on this problem. Most of the people on Team 2000 have not had a complete holiday weekend off with their families since January of 199 ! They have shown a level of diligence and professionalism that will result in a smooth transition to the new millennium within Contra Costa County. The second award, which was presented personally to Mr. Cellini in San .lose in December, was for"Year 2000 Project Management Excellence." I am asking the Board of Supervisors to "re-present"this award to Mr. Cellini in recognition for: • Project management excellence and design in Year 2000 remediation work, at a time when no one else had accomplished this task (1995). At that time, there was barely any information about Year 2000 remediation work available, so Mr. Cellini essentially"invented" Contra Costa County's entire process. * The thousands of hours Mr. Cellini has put into the successful management of numerous resources required to successfully complete this project, on time and within his initial budget estimates. • Mr. Ceilini's unceasing efforts to assist others with their Year 2000 remediation efforts, even at times when his own internal workload and deadlinepressures were tremendous. Van, I know this is a LOT more than a few graphs. Please feel free to use what you need for the presentation. Again, 1 appreciate it! TOTAL. x'.03
