Barry, AICP Costa Community Development Director County DATE: December 7, 1999 SUBJECT: Revisions to the Functional Classification of Certain Roads in the Unincorporated Area SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR'RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECQMMENDATIQNS Adopt a resolution approving revisions to the classification of certain roads in the unincorporated area pursuant to the classification system used by of the Federal Highway Administration. FISCAL IMPACT None to the General Fund. Roads with certain classifications are eligible for receiving federal transportation funds. BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS Caltrans requested the County to review the current functional classifications for roads in the unincorporated area. These functional classifications were developed many years ago by the Federal Highway Administration for administration of certain federal transportation programs. The Community Development Director and the Public Warks Director have reviewed these classifications for their accuracy and propose certain revisions for your approval (See Exhibit A). Most of these revisions are a result of new road construction (e.g. Richmond Parkway and Cummings Skyway extension), road closures (e.g. Port Chicago Highway and Solano Way) and the relocation of Vasco Road.
