(Compensation of Elected County Officers)
The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors ordains as follows (omitting the
parenthetical footnotes from the official text of the enacted or amended provisions of
the County Ordinance Code):
SECTION I. Chapter 24-26 of the Contra Costa County Ordinance Code is amended to
read as follows:
Chapter 24-26 Compensation.
24-26.002 Setting by resolution. The compensation of officials may be set by
board of supervisors resolution. (Ords. 99-57 § 1, 68-23 § 1, 1968: prior code §
2430.1.)
24-26.006 Supervisors. (a) Each supervisor, for service as such, shall receive
a base monthly salary at the following monthly rates as specified in the Contra Costa
County pay series schedule:
(1) From February 15, 2000, to September 30, 2000, a monthly salary at
level M50 2161 (Step 5);
(2) From October 1, 2000, to September 30, 2001, a monthly salary at
level M50 2162 (Step 5);
(3) From and after October 1, 2001, a monthly salary at level M50 2202
(Step 5).
(b)Additionally, each supervisor shall receive reimbursement for
reasonable expenses necessarily incurred in the conduct of such office;
such other benefits as are provided other classified or exempt
management employees; eligibility for a $60 monthly County contribution
to the County's Deferred Compensation Plan in the same manner as other
management employees; and an automobile allowance of five hundred
and fifty dollars per month. Receipt of the automobile allowance requires
that a private automobile be furnished for county business.

24-26.008 Elected County Officers. As compensation for not accruing paid
vacation credit, including its retirement benefits, each elected county officer shall be
provided six thousand dollars as a deferred compensation contribution that will be
added to the elected county officer's deferred compensation account effective July 1 of

each year(commencing July 1, 2000). If after July 1, but prior to June 30th, of the next
succeeding year, for any reason, the elected county officer's occupancy of office
terminates and/or expires, the elected county officer shall be entitled to a deferred
compensation account contribution prorated from July 1 to include the time period the
elected county officer served prior to the next June 30th. Further, if, for any reason, all
or part of such deferred compensation cannot be made into the deferred compensation
account, the elected county officer shall be entitled to an equivalent lump sum payment.
None of the county's six thousand dollars contribution may be used to establish
eligibility and qualification to receive the additional sixty dollar monthly contribution
otherwise provided by the county.

24-26.010 Pay Series Schedule. A copy of the approved Contra Costa County
Pay Series Schedule and Salary Administration Plan has been and shall be maintained
on file and available for public view at the Human Resources Department, 3rd Floor,
County Administration Building, Martinez, California.

24-26.012 Coverage. For the purposes of this article, elected county officers are
the assessor, auditor-controller, board of supervisors, clerk-recorder, district attorney-
public administrator, sheriff-coroner, and treasurer-tax collector.

SECTION ll. EFFECTIVE AND OPERATIVE DATE. Pursuant to Government Code
section 25123.5 and Elections Code section 9143, this ordinance becomes effective 60
days after passage, and within 15 days of passage shall be published once with the
names of the supervisors voting for and against it in the Contra Costa Times , a
newspaper published in this County.
