HONORING JANE BARTKE FOR HER EIGHT YEARS OF DEDICATED
SERVICE ON THE EL CERRITO CITY COUNCIL
WHEREAS, Jane Bartke has lived in EI Cerrito, California for the past 36 years serving
on the EI Cerrito City Council for the last eight of those years and twice served as
Mayor during 1993-94 and 1997-98;and
WHEREAS, Ms. Bartke has also been a respected teacher in the West Contra Costa
Unified School District for 30 years and is loved by a generation of students at Adams
Middle School and was recognized in 1996 with a Teacher Excellence Award as a
districtwide teacher of theyear;and
WHEREAS, the citizens of EI Cerrito have benefited greatly from Ms. Bartke's work on
the City Council including: replacement of nearly half the city's storm drains to
decrease flooding of streets and homes, improving the city's financial stability by
increasing the city's reserves, and a new fire station built on time& under budget; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Bartke's leadership has helped jump start the process to revitalize the
EI Cerrito Plaza to return it back to an active commercial center;and
WHEREAS, Ms. Bartke was known as one of the hardest working councilmembers
and worked over 30 hours per week in her duties representing the community and
over SO hours per week while Mayor,and was often out representing the City five
nights per week; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure on the City Council, Ms. Bartke served as El Cerrito's
primary liaison on numerous regional and state boards and commissions where she
ably represented EI Cerrito's interests and advocated a regional vision to improve the
quality of life in the San Francisco Bay Area; some of those boards included the
Association of Bay Area Governments, League of California Cities, Contra Costa
Mayor's Conference, West Contra Costa Transportation Advisory Committee,and the
Contra Costa Transportation Authority,and
WHEREAS,as a public servant, Ms. Bartke was known as a dedicated and sincere
community, representative who was always accessible to EI Cerrito residents and
attended 100% of the regularly scheduled City Council meetings during her eight
years in office; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of
Contra Costa County, does hereby recognize and honor Ms.Jane Bartke for her strong
common sense leadership, her sincere dedication to the citizens of EI Cerrito,and her
tireless efforts to represent El Cerrito on numerous regional boards and commissions.

The Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County
In the Matter of Resolution No 99/631
HONORING SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH
ON ITS 75TH ANNIVERSARY.
WHEREAS, Saint John the Baptist Church has been a respected
community institution in West Contra Costa County for 75 years; and
WHEREAS, Saint John the Baptist Church was founded by the Italian and
Portuguese families that lived in the EI Cerrito area; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, December 17, 1999 at the Galileo Club in
Richmond, Saint John the Baptist Church will be celebrating its 75th
anniversary with a special community dinner; and
WHEREAS, this special event is being sponsored by the Italian community
of Saint John the Baptist Church, and will feature a traditional Italian
dinner, and
WHEREAS, Saint John the Baptist Church has an array of programs in
which its members may participate, including a weekly performing adult
choir, a grief group that provides support for parishioners grieving over
the death of loved ones, and a bible study group that studies scriptures
through informal discussions led by a Jesuit seminarian; and
WHEREAS, additional programs include a Children's Choir, a Catholics'
Divorced, Widowed and Separated Support Group, Children's Religious
Education, and a Church Environmental Committee, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of
Contra Costa County does hereby publicly recognize and commend Saint
John the Baptist Church for its 75 years of service to its members and the
entire West Contra Costa County community.
