SUBJECT: State Capitol Exhibit
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) +&
BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATIONIS);
AUTHORIZE the County Admistrator or his designee to construct a new State Capitol Exhibit
(See attached copy of the mock up).
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None. Pacific Bell has agreed to contribute $2,500 towards the construction of the new exhibit.
In addition, John Hopper of Creative Concepts has volunteered his time for the design work.
BACKGROUNDIREASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S):
The current exhibit was completed in January 1990. The California Retired Teacher's
Associations, Contra Costa Community College District and Contra Costa Council worked with
the County to design and construct the Exhibit, The Exhibit has been changed over the years by
the addition of a topographical map, three-dimensional figures and photos.
Since 1990, several other counties have upgraded their exhibits. And in the last couple of years,
we have received occasional comments from citizens about the need for the County to update its
exhibit.
A small committee of County staff:was formed to discuss changes to the exhibit and Jahn Hopper
of Creative Concepts volunteered his time to design the attached pictured mock up. The exhibit
was designed to be long lasting, low on maintenance and representative of the diversity and
Quality of life in Contra Costa County. Attached is a list of potential photographs to be included in
the exhibit. It was agreed that all cities would be named and the County seal included in the base
of the exhibit.
Pacific Bell was then asked to assist in sponsoring the exhibit. They agreed. Therefore, staff
recommends that the Board authorize the construction of the exhibit to include some if not all of
the pictures suggested.
