IN THE MATTER OF HONORING RESOLUTION NO. 98/S36
ELLEN PETERSON AS THE 1998
LAFAYETTE CTTI1:EN OF THE YEAR
WHEREAS, ELLEN PETERSON has been committed to serving the community through valuable contributions
important to the education of our children and the City of Lafayette;and
WHEREAS, ELLEN PETERSON,through her own devotion to her children,led her to devote her time to
developing parent education programs,founding the Nurture Company. For 15 years she has taught similar courses
through Acalanes Adult Education.
WHEREAS, ELLEN PETERSON was appointed to serve on the county's Substance Abuse Advisory Board,and
she has co-chaired the Acalanes Attendance Area Drug Alcohol Coalition.
WHEREAS, ELLEN PETERSON has spent endless hours volunteering her time to the likes of Girl Scouts of
America and the Lafayette Moraga'Youth Association. Her committed path led her to crusading against teen alcohol
and drug use.
WHEREAS, ELLEN PETERSON is a dedicated advocate for the children,a devoted leader in parent education,a
loving mother and an inspiration to those who know her.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby
honor and commend
as the 1998 Lafayette Citizen of the Year.
PASSED by vote of the Board of Supervisors members present on this 27th day of October, 1998.
