HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06171986 - X.1 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Proclaiming ) June 15 - 21 , 1986 as ) RESOLUTION NO. 86/349 National Safety in the Workplace ) Week ) WHEREAS, workplace accidents each year kill about 11 ,300 Americans and injure an additional 1 .9 million workers; and WHEREAS, these accidents cost Americans about $33.4 billion annually; and WHEREAS, employers and employees in the public and private sectors must recognize the need to safeguard the working place so that we may enjoy a productive and healthy environment; and WHEREAS, the American Society of Safety Engineers, established in 1911 , is an organization dedicated to the reduction of workplace accidents and deaths through the training and development of highly skilled professionals in safety and health management; and WHEREAS, the Society has nearly 20,000 members in the United States and more than 50 countries , who will be calling attention to the seriousness and magnitude of this problem through appropriate activities; and WHEREAS, this endeavor is worthy of our support and coopera- tion so that we may reduce the toll of workplace injuries and deaths; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby proclaim June 15 - 21 , 1986 to be NATIONAL SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE WEEK in Contra Costa County and urge the citizens of this county to join the members of the American Society of Safety Engineers in their attempts to improve our safety and health. PASSED and ADOPTED on June 17, 1986 by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
