IN THE MATTER OF RECOGNIZING RESOLUTION NO. 97/507
OCTOBER S TO 11, 1997 AS MENTAL
ILLNESS AWARENESS WEEK IN
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
WHEREAS, severe and persistent mental and emotional disabilities are more common than cancer, diabetes and
heart disease and affect 1-2%of the general population at some time in their life. This includes disorders such as:
manic depressive illness, major depression, serious anxiety disorders and schizophrenia; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Mental Health Division's mission is to empower individuals to obtain
treatment, education and motivation that will assist them in their process towards wellness and recovery through an
adult and children's system of care; and
the adult system of care focuses on providing individuals a broad array of services in their community
that include: housing, vocational support, day treatment programs, outpatient treatment programs, case management,
emergency and crisis services to assist each person in obtaining their ability to be a productive and contributing
member of their community; and
WHEREAS, the youth system of care specializes in the development of a comprehensive, family-centered,
interagency continuum that offers home-based intervention services, wraparound and respite services, therapeutic
foster care and transition services for young adults.
NOW, T IEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby
proclaim the week of October 5-11, 1997 as
Mental Illness A waren ess Week
To increase the understanding of mental illness and to support the efforts of Contra Costa County's residents to
obtain the services and support they need to have a high quality of life.
PASSED by vote of the Board of Supervisors members present on this 7th day of October, 1997.
