Pittsburg, CA 94565 Dear Supervisor Canciamillia, As a parent of a student as well as a future student at Freedom High School, I am extremely concerned about the safety of our students walking to school on O'Hara Avenue, as well as Neroly Road. The two-lane road between Laurel Ave. and the school, as well as Neroly Road is very dangerous because of the lack of sidewalks. I am aware that the County Works Department has applied for Transportation Development Act funds during the last funding cycle and unfortunately, the application was not successful. This letter is to urge you, and the entire Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, to IMMEDIATELY allocate the necessary funds to construct a temporary walking path on O'Hara Road. Funds received from future grants could replenish current budgets. The safety of our children has to be of the highest priority! Please provide the leadership that will result in immediate action to construct walkways for our students. Do it NOW before one of our children is KILLED!! The two-lane road between Laurel Avenue and the school is very dangerous because of the lack of sidewalks. I am aware that the County Public works Department has applied for Transportation • Development Act funds during the last funding cycle and unfortunately, the application was not successful. I am also aware that attempts have been made to lower the 50 mph speed limit with little success. I am also aware that Bart buses/County Transportation buses will not drive down O'Hara Avenue to Freedom High School because the road is to narrow. Yet our children are expected to walk without sidewalks on a narrow road that all local bus services refuse to drive with cars going 50 mph. This letter is to urge you, and the entire Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, to Immediately allocate the necessary funds to construct a temporary walkingibicycle path on O'Hara Road. Funds received from future successful grants could replenish current budgets. The safety of our children has to be of the highest priority? Please provide the leadership that will result in immediate action to construct walkways for our students and lower the speed limit! BEFORE A CHILD IS HIT AND KILLED.
