HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 01141997 - C115 C.115 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA DATE: January 14, 1997 MATTER OF RECORD SUBJECT: Information Item - Unocal Refinery The Board of Supervisors received a letter dated December 26, 1996, from the General Manager, Unocal, advising of the sale of its refinery and carbon plant located in Rodeo and of the termination of all employees at these locations, as required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (19 U.S.C. §2101). WILKES General Manager San Francisco Refinery Supervisor Jeffrey Smith, Chairman Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors County Administration Building, Room 108A 651 Pine Street Martinez, CA 94553 Dear Supervisor Smith: This letter serves as notice required by Section 3 of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (29 U.S.C. § 2101). Union Oil Company of California's, (d.b.a. Unocal), is selling its San Francisco Refinery, 1380 San Pablo Avenue, Rodeo, California, 94572, and Contra Costa Carbon Plant, 2101 Franklin Canyon Road, Rodeo, California, 94572, and will terminate the employment of all employees at the San Francisco. Refinery and Contra Costa Carbon Plant on February 28, 1997 or within fourteen (14) days thereafter. Attachment A lists the number of employees by job classification which will be terminated. Termination from Unocal will not preclude employees from employment with the prospective . buyer, Tosco. Attachment B is a list of effected unions and the names of the chief elected officers of those unions. . These labor organizations represent all union employees listed as represented on attachment at the referenced facilities. Unocal and Tosco plan to complete the sale on February 28, 1997.
