HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12021997 - C35 (2) IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Endorsing the 1998 ) Countywide YOUTH TO YOUTH ) RESOLUTION NO. 9 7/ 631 CONFERENCE ) WHEREAS, on January 31, 1998, the first annual countywide Youth to Youth Conference will be held at Mt. Diablo High School in Concord for all of Contra Costa County's high school students; and WHEREAS, Youth to Youth is a national model based on peer-to-peer teaching, which is designed to empower young people to live healthy, drug, alcohol, tobacco, and violence free lives; and WHEREAS, Youth to Youth initially began in Contra Costa County in the San Ramon Valley, and, this year, Friday Night Live decided to bring it to a countywide level through collaboration with other community-based organizations, government agencies, schools, and businesses; and WHEREAS, the day-long conference will begin with honoring local dignitaries and a keynote speaker, followed by interactive workshops about employment skills, self esteem, violence prevention, tobacco prevention, stress management, drug prevention, and volunteerism as well as time for fun activities such as peer family groups, hip hop and salsa dancing, poetry reading and writing,skits, and a dance with music by KMEL; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors encourages this type of positive event for the youth of Contra Costa County and extends its best wishes for a well-attended and successful conference. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors endorses the 1998 Countywide YOUTH TO YOUTH CONFERENCE PASSED AND ADOPTED ON December 2, 1997, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
