SUBJECT: Marketing the Health Services Department
Last August I presented the Committee with a plan to increase the visibility and positive recognition
of the Health Services Department by developing a logo for use by all of the Health Services
programs and considering ways to better market our services. I want to report to you on our
progress.
A Task Force of representatives from all parts of the Department worked with a graphic designer and
solicited input from our staff, patients and clients. After much discussion and revision, we have
developed a logo for the Department, a redesigned letterhead and a streamlined name.
The letterhead with new logo is attached. We hope you will agree that the logo is attractive and
appropriate. We are pleased with it and plan to use it on all correspondence, education and outreach
materials and other documents.
The letterhead for the Department incorporates the County seal and lists all of our Divisions as a way
to highlight the breadth of our programs. The letterhead for each Division will follow the same
format in order to highlight the inter-relatedness of our programs. All Divisions will use the new
Health Services logo. We also have refined the names of our Divisions to create both consistency
and an identification with Contra Costa County. Please see the second attachment for the list of
Division names.
We are not proposing to change the Department's official name. However, for marketing and
visibility purposes, we plan to use the shorter, simpler"Contra Costa Health Services." Our goal
is for Contra Costa Health Services to gain more and more positive recognition in the public's eye.

Next Steps:
Our logo and letterhead development work has underscored the need for us to develop a stronger
recognition of internal,as well as external customer service. During the next several months we will
be developing internal culture change activities to help each Division define their internal and
external customers; adopt the changes necessary to foster more internal coordination and
responsiveness; and implement plans for increasing external customer satisfaction and positive
public recognition of our programs and services.
In conclusion, I am requesting your acceptance of this report and your recommendation to the full
Board to acknowledge the adoption of our new logo and the use of"Contra Costa Health Services"
for marketing and visibility purposes.
