BACKGROUND: There are several vacancies on the Human Relations Commission and several members whose terms are expiring have indicated they do not wish to be reappointed. We have advertised for applicants and have agreed to interview those members who have already attended a meeting of the Commission. We interviewed Ms. Ries on November 4, 1996. Ms. Ries lives in Richmond and is a police officer in East Palo Alto who is currently working with the schools in East Palo Alto. We believe she would be an outstanding addition to the Human Relations Commission. ATTESTED November 19 , 1996 Contact: PHIL BATCHELOR,CLERK OF THE BOARD OF Cc: SUPERVISORS AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR See Page 2 BY ,DEPUTY IOC-05 Tim Dayonot, Chair of the Commission, indicated that the Executive Committee of the Commission would be interested in having the core members of the Newcomers Task Force join the Commission. The Commission would then be willing to assume the responsibilities which had been outlined for the Newcomers Task Force. This seems like an eminently sensible idea to our Committee and we are, therefore, asking that it be pursued. In a separate report, we are recommending that the size of the Commission be reduced eventually to nine members. However, we want to make provision for appointing these members of the Newcomers Task Force to the Commission and then allow future resignations to reduce the Commission to nine members. cc: County Administrator Pam Perls, Executive Director, Human Relations Commission Tim Dayonot, Chair, Human Relations Commission Trevor Norman, Secretary to the Human Relations Commission Marie Arlene Ries -2- i CONTRA COSTA COUNTY ADVISORY BOARDS, COMMISSIONS OR CO APPLICATION FORM Name of advisory board applying for Human Relations Commissinn Application Form must be typed or hand printed: Ro pp sv Name of Applicant: Marie Arlene Ries Home Address: 4697 Upland Drive Home Phone: (510) 223-2993 City, State, Zip: Richmond, California 94803 Business Address: 2415 University Avenue Work Phone: (415) 853-3174 City, State, Zip: East Palo Alto, California 94303 Signature: Date: July 9, 1996 Personal Experience, Skills and Interests Education/Background: High school diploma,P.O.S.T.
