THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
AS EX OFFICIO THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
Adopted this Order of November 19, 1996, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors .Rogers, Bishop, DeSaulnier, Torlakson, Smith
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
RESOLUTION NO. 96/525
SUBJECT: 1995 COURTHOUSE ARSON FIRES
WHEREAS, on August 28, 1995, an arson fire occurred in the Walnut Creek- Danville Municipal Court
building located in the City of Walnut Creek and;
WHEREAS, on September 14, 1995, two arson fires occurred in the City of Concord, one in the Mt. Diablo
Municipal Courthouse and the other in the Mt. Diablo Court Annex building; and
WHEREAS, on September 14, 1995, a fourth arson fire occurred in the Contra Costa County Courthouse in
the City of Martinez; and
WHEREAS, Firefighters from the following fire agencies:
Benicia Fire Department
Contra Costa County Fire Protection District
Crockett Fire Protection.District
Dougherty Fire Authority
East Diablo Fire Protection District
Moraga Fire Protection District
Orinda Fire Protection District
San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District
quickly responded to and efficiently controlled these fires; and
WHEREAS, employees of the Contra Costa County Clerk's Office, the Department of General Services with
the assistance of other County employees, quickly and proficiently, in adverse conditions, temporarily restored
records and relocated offices to allow the functions of the courts to proceed; and
WHEREAS, the following law enforcement agencies:
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms
Concord Police Department
Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office
Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, Arson Investigation Unit
Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office
Federal Bureau of Investigation
Martinez Police Department
Walnut Creek Police Department
working together quickly and effectively formed an Arson Task Force to investigate, apprehend, and
successfully prosecute the persons responsible for these fires.
Now, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA
COUNTY hereby thanks and expresses its appreciation for all the above named, and any others inadvertently
overlooked, who worked diligently, accepting all assignments, and completing those assignments thoroughly
and in a timely manner. These actions provided for a successful closure to a very.destructive act and
lessened disruption to the citizens of Contra Costa County.
