DATE: October 21, 1996 y

SUBJECT: CONTINGENT REFERRAL TO THE INTERNAL OPERATIONS COMMITTEE
OF THE COUNTY'S CAMPAIGN REFORM ORDINANCE
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
REFER to the Internal Operations Committee, contingent on the voters passing
either Proposition 208, Proposition 212, or both Propositions 208 and 212, on
November 5, 1996, review and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors
regarding changes which may be required to the County's existing Campaign Reform
Ordinance.
BACKGROUND:
Passage by the voters on November 5, 1996 of either Proposition 208, Proposition
212, or both Propositions and 208 and 212 will to some extent impact the County's
existing Campaign Reform Ordinance. We believe that a review of the entire
Ordinance should be undertaken in this case to insure that the County's Ordinance
remains consistent with State law. If both Proposition 208 and Proposition 212 are
defeated by the voters, no additional referral to the Internal Operations Committee
is required.
