SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO ACCEPT U. S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE GRANT AWARD
Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification
RECOMMENDATIONS :
AUTHORIZE the County Administrator to accept on behalf of the County a U. S .
Department of. Justice COPS grant award in the amount of $200, 000 to the
Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Receipt of the Federal dollars will enable the Office of the Sheriff to
implement a domestic violence program. No County match is required.
REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
The Office of the Sheriff has applied for, and received, a U. S. Department
of Justice Community Policing to Combat Domestic Violence grant in the amount
of $200,000 . For this award to go into effect, requires the Board of
Supervisors to authorize the County Administrator to execute the grant award
on behalf of the County. These monies would provide for a Deputy Sheriff
Domestic Violence Coordinator and support staff for the Sheriff ' s Crime
Analysis Unit; staffing for the instruction of police officers and detectives
in the writing of domestic violence police reports, and follow-up
investigations; and support staff for the Advisory Council Against Domestic
Violence (ACAD) . This person would assist with administrative work for the
Council .
