Dear Supervisors: We,the Board of Directors of the Pleasant Hill Homesites Association, would like to express some of our concerns regarding the proposed Pleasant Hill BART Station area development. Our neighborhood area of approximately 143 homes includes Astrid, Esther and Pleasant Valley Drives, Hook Avenue, St. Lawrence Way, St. Lawrence and Barbara Courts. We have been working with the City of Peasant Hill to solve a traffic problem we NOW have with a police documented 900+cars driving down Pleasant Valley Drive and up Hook Avenue, with a major portion of that traffic using our streets as a short-cut to the Oak Park overpass that leads to and from the Pleasant Hill BART Station. This is evidenced by the"commute hours"time and direction of the traffic flow. We are deeply concerned that your proposed entertainment village will draw an even GREATER amount of traffic through our neighborhood during an even WIDER span of time of day and evening(even with the proposed widening and realignment of North Main Street). We would hope your plans would include a more family-oriented rather than adult-oriented development and that it would increase BART and public transit ridership and NOT automobile traffic which it now seems to do.We feel that satellite parking areas with shuttles to the BART Station AND additional parking at the BART Station to provide for the PRESENT parking shortage at the station should be high priorities. We feel your proposal to remove 7 homes on Esther Drive to allow for a flyover to the Oak Park overpass is drastic and inconsiderate of the fabric of this community. Many people who have chosen to retire in this neighborhood simply could not afford to move elsewhere. We are trying to preserve our neighborhood which also includes a large number of families with children moving in over the past 10 years. We have a developing"sense of community"and would be greatly distressed to lose that along with our property values by turning our narrow residential streets into major thoroughfares. We invite you to respono to this letter as soon as possible as we would like to deliver your response at our September 29th general meeting. Thank you for your attention.
