SUBJECT: Approval of Standard Contract #26-279-1 with Somphanh Phanivong
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee
(Frank Puglisi) , to execute on behalf of the County, Standard Contract
#26-279-1 with Somphanh Phanivong, for the period from February 1,
1996 through January 31, 1997, with a payment limit of $38, 000, for
provision of multilingual interpretation services for patients at
Merrithew Memorial Hospital and Health Centers.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
This Contract is funded 100% by a grant from the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services. No County funds are required.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONSIBACKGROUND:
The Department has been notified of a grant award from the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services for the Hansen's Disease
National Ambulatory Care Program.
Patients with Hansen's Disease are predominately immigrants who do not
speak English. This Contractor speaks eight (8) of the languages
spoken by the majority of the patients, and as such will provide a
vital service to the County's patients and the Hansen's Disease
Program.
Approval of Standard Contract #26-279-1 will allow the Contractor to
continue to provide translation services at Merrithew Memorial
Hospital and Health Centers through January 31, 1997 .
