SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION FOR 1996-1997 TO THE
CALIFORNIA ARTS COUNCIL
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOM
AUTHORIZE submission of a grant application for 1996 - 1997 to the California Arts Council requesting $30,000
in the General Operating Support category of the State-Local partnership program.
DIRECT staff to furnish assistance in compiling the grant and its necessary components to be submitted to the
California Arts Council by January 26, 1996.
AUTHORIZE allocation of$15,000 as the County share of the required match to the CAC's grant for 1996 - 1997.
COST_:_ $15,000. The grant requires a matching amount. Of this match, $15,000 would be provided by the County
and $15,000 would be provided by private and corporate resources and gifts.
I3ACKGROLNID MATERIAL:
This investment of$15,000 of County funds will result in leveraging three times that amount in State and private
funding for the arts in Contra Costa County. Grant support will be used to fund the Arts and Culture Commission's
in increasing visibility of the arts; enhancing public appreciation of the arts; and developing collaborative ventures
between arts organizations, business, and public institutions in CCC.
