HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 01231996 - C31 Contra TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Costa o; s FROM: PHIL BATCHELOR a County County Administrator o•..., DATE: January 23, 1996 SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO IMPLEMENT COMMUNITY-BASED PUNISHMENT OPTIONS PLANNING GRANT Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification RECOMMENDATIONS: 1 . Authorize County Administrator or his designee to act as a single point of County contact with respect to implementing the Community-Based Punishment Options Planning Grant. 2 . Authorize County Administrator or his designee to execute a contract with the State Board of Corrections and any amendments or extensions thereto. (This amends Resolution #95/565 . ) 3. Direct County Administrator to work with amd coordinate the activities of Sheriff and County Probation Officer and other members of the Community-Based Planning Committee created by Resolution #95/565 in a team effort to achieve the results of the planning grant. FISCAL IMPACT: There . are no County general funds involved in this planning grant. Completing this planning study with funds provided by the •.State Board of Corrections will put the County in the position of being eligible for State funding for various community-based programs that may be authorized later by the Legislature. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: Resolution #95./565 ( 11/28/95) authorized the County to participate in the Community-Based Punishment Options Planning Grants Program operated pursuant to State law by the State Board of Corrections . This Resolution set forth a team consisting of Co-Correctional Administrators Warren Rupf and Terrence Starr as well as other individuals as members of the Community-Based Planning Committee to do the research and prepare the report that would be required by the Grant. Since that Resolution, the staff of the Board of Corrections has indicated that they wish the County to designate a single point of contact for the purposes of administering the grant. The above recommended action complies with the State request as well as maintains the team approach essential to the success of this program. Participating County agencies, including the Office. of the Sheriff and the Probation Department, will remain responsible for the dat c llect' relevant to their part of the grant.
