Council, replacing George Fujioka to serve a full three-year term ending
November 30, 1998:
Kofi Opong-Mensah
109 Thistle Court
Hercules, CA 94547.
4. AUTHORIZE the 1996 Internal Operations Committee to interview candidates
for the minority or woman-owned business seat on the Equal Employment
Opportunity Advisory Council and return its recommendation to the Board of
Supervisors and for this purpose REFER this issue to the 1996 Internal
Operations Committee.
BACKGROUND:
The Equal Employment Opportunity Advisory Council is an 11 member advisory
body which includes 4 representatives of women, minorities and other protected
groups; 1 representative of the disabled; 2 representatives of employee
organizations; 1 representative of a minority-owned business; 2 management
representatives, and 1 representative of labor who is involved in training programs.
Due to resignations, 3 of the 4 seats representing women, minorities and other
protected groups are vacant as well as the seat for a minority-owned business
representative.
We have recruited for applicants and have received 10 applications for the three
vacancies representing women, minorities and other protected groups.
On December 18, 1995, our Committee interviewed the candidates for these seats.
We were pleased to have an outstanding group of candidates from which to select.
We have selected the above-noted three individuals. Some of the other applicants
are also eligible for the minority or woman-owned business seat, which we are
recommending that the 1996 Internal Operations Committee interview for. We are
also recommending the appointment of two of the applicants to existing vacancies
on the Human Relations Commission in order to take advantage of their outstanding
talents, interest and background.
