SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT TO THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE ADVISORY BOARD

RECOMMENDATION:
1. APPOINT to the Substance Abuse Advisory Board for the balance of a three-
year term ending June 30, 1998:

BACKGROUND:
The Substance Abuse Advisory Board has advised our Committee of a vacancy in
an at-large seat due to the resignation of Paul Rich from his seat last year.
The Substance Abuse Advisory Board has reviewed available applications for this
seat and has recommended the appointment of Lisa Korpus. We are pleased to
endorse this recommendation, particularly since Ms. Korpus is a high school student
and will bring an important youth perspective to the deliberations of the Substance
Abuse Advisory Board.

Education/Background: I am currently a Senior and attend College Park High
School in Pleasant Hill.
Occupation (student, for pay work, not for pay work, retiree or similar): Student
(School Hours are Monday: 7: 30a-10:40a & Tuesday - Friday: 7:30a-11 :20a)
Community Activities: The community organizations of which I am associated with
are: Pleasant Hill Community Against Substance Abuse Steering and Fiesta
Committees, Central County Partnership Steering Committee, Pleasant Hill
Teen Council, Contra Costa Youth Advisory Board, Star Quest Steering
Special Interests: Through my participation in community organizations, I have
made a real difference for everyone. During the last three years, I helpe
pass Pleasant Hill' s 100% no-smoking ordinance, support the "NO on 188"
campaign in last November's election, and became the driving force to
eliminate the use of tobacco by faculty and staff from all of the schools
within the Mt. Diablo Unified School District. While staying involved -in
community activities, this gives me a feeling of satisfaction by giving
tsomething back to my community and its veople.
