RECOMMENDATION APPROVE the issuance of a Change Order to the Contract dated February 7, 1995 issued to Centex Golden Construction Co. for the Construction of a New Hospital, Associated Site and Hardscape and Landscape at 2500 Alhambra Avenue,Martinez,and AUTHORIZE the County Administrator or his designee to execute the Change Order. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT Funds in the capital account established for the project are sufficient to cover the amount encumbered by this contract, from bond proceeds specified to the project. Bond financing for the total project cost was secured in May, 1992 in accordance with the Board of Supervisors' direction. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS On February 7, 1995, the County awarded the contract to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, Centex Golden Construction Co. The authorization to execute this Change Order will provide for the following: Proposed Change Order No. 167.1 (Owner Change Requests#6 and 21)-Utility Changes Needed for Owner-Furnished Film Processing Equipment in Radiology. $65,323.00 The selection of owner-furnished film processors resulted in necessary mechanical changes which included relocated HVAC ducts,wall sinks,floor sinks, sewer lines,sewer vent lines and water lines; the addition of ducted exhausts and trap primers,and core drilling. Proposed Change Order No.253-Structural Reinforcement at Exterior Windows $56,159.00 As a result of the exterior wall mockup evaluation,the Architect concluded that the framing around the windows needed to be reinforced. This change included the addition of heavy gauge framing and clip angles,and welding to increase strength and rigidity. Proposed Change Order No. 292(Owner Change Request#16)-Added CO2 Lines to Surgeries and Some Special Procedure Rooms. $ 72,055.00 Due to changes in surgical procedures,a CO 2 gas system was installed. This change provided med gas piping from the med gas storage room to four operating rooms and three special procedure rooms on the second floor,and two C-section rooms on the fifth floor. This gas service terminates in 13 locations. $193,537.00 The new guaranteed maximum cost will exceed the total estimated cost stated in the construction contract agreement approved by the Board on February 7, 1995. The new guaranteed maximum cost will total$45,692,693. Page 2 of 2
