approximately 2 acres. The development of 52 senior housing units is to be part of a mixed-use project that
will ultimately include local serving retail, a sheriff substantion, and the North Richmond Center for Health.
The senior housing project cost is approximately $5.3 million.
The plan of finance includes approximately $600,000 in County CDBG and HOME funds, approximately
$600,000 from the County Redevelopment Agency, and $200,000 from the City of Richmond. All of these
funds are committed. The most critical element of the plan of finance was an allocation of$3.9 million in
HUD Section 202 Elderly Housing funds. After two unsuccessful attempts, HUD has notified the sponsors
and the Agency/County that it will fund the project. This funding commitment will permit a major element
of the revitalization of North Richmond to proceed. The revitalization process in North Richmond includes
senior housing, new homeownership housing, job training/linkage programs, infrastructure improvements,
and economic development activities.
