HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11141995 - P2 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In The Matter of ) Commending Michael Cervantes ) Resolution No. 95/522 WHEREAS, Michael Cervantes, Environmental Health Specialist, has served in the Environmental Health Division of the Contra Costa County Health Services Department for two years; and WHEREAS, Michael learned of the National Bone Marrow Donor Program while a student at San Jose State University and registered with the Program in 1989; and WHEREAS, in 1994, a telephone call came advising Mr. Cervantes that he was a possible match for a leukemia patient and, on September 13, 1994, he had bone marrow removed and flown to Hawaii where it was successfully transplanted; and WHEREAS, protocol prohibits identification of donors and recipients to each other until one year after a successful implant, and it was on September 13, 1995 that Michael finally met 21-year-old Amy Asuncion, the recipient of his bone marrow; and WHEREAS, the Environmental Health Division has fully supported his involvement in the Program and share the pride in learning of the results of Michael 's efforts, a pride which can be shared by all the citizens of this County, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, RESOLVED that Michael Cervantes is COMMENDED for his compassion and generosity exemplified by his unselfish, life-giving donation to a stranger who truly needed his help. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this day of November 14, 1995. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
