RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve and authorize the Chair, Board of Supervisors, to execute 0A__- behalf of the County, Standard Agreement (Amendment 29-31 - MS- 3029, 01) with the State Emergency Medical Services ( -Authority, to extend the term of Agreement #29-311 (EMS-3029) through December 31, 1995, for the Poison Control Center Alternatives Study. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: This Amendment is an extension of time only with no change in the payment limit of $46, 000. No County funds are required. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONSLBACRGROUND: "-.--On 'October 25, 1994, the Board of Supervisors approved Standard Agreement Contract #29-311 (EMS-3029) with the State EMS Authority which provided funding for first year of the Poison Control Center Alternatives Study. Approval of this agreement provided funding to study the impact of the "9-1-1" conference procedures used in response to poison information requests in Contra Costa County, as well as extensive research on alternative methods of poison call screening. The Board of Supervisors approved Standard Agreement #29-311-1 (EMS- 4042) on August 8, 1995, for funding during the second year of the study, for two alternative model programs which are being designed and developed for implementation; (1) through an existing "nurse screening" system, and (2) through trained emergency medical dispatchers working in a secondary "9-1-1" Public Safety Answering Point. Standard Agreement #29-311 was not finalized until November, 1994 and approval of this Amendment #29-311-2 will provide a time-only extension through December 31, 1995, to complete the first-year- project objectives. The Board Chair should sign nine copies of the agreement. Eight copies of the agreement and-four sealed and certified copies of this Board Order should be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit.
